INKtober 2021 – DAY 6 – Bugs Bunny Smoking a Cigarette in Mississippi Hare
Yes, this situation really happened… Bugs Bunny smoked tobacco. I actually believe there were several cartoons where Bugs Bunny smoked tobacco. Back in the day, smoking was not considered a bad habit. It was actually encouraged on the Silver Screen. Today’s INKtober drawing is a scene from the 1949 short entitles Mississippi Hare where Bugs is playing a Southern Gentlemen. I cannot recall the last time I saw a cartoon character smoke. Heck, even the latest animated series for Popeye saw the rough and tough, salty hero sporting a pipe that blew bubbles. Yes, bubbles. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Just take away Popeye’s pipe… don’t make him into a bubble-blowing baby.
