5. Charmy’s Army Acrylic Paintings

Earlier this year, the National Cartoonists Society asked me to participate in an art exhibit in Keller, Texas. I jumped all over this because there were several syndicated cartoonists being asked as well. I figured this exposure could possibly peak one of their interests towards Charmy’s Army. The old saying goes, “Sometimes it is WHO you know and not WHAT you know”. I need some backers for my syndication bid. As it stands now, I do not even think the syndicates ever see my submissions as I have not heard back on my submissions in years.
I have not painted in nearly thirty years, so this was challenging at first. Over the course of two months, the comfort level set in. I spent entire days watching very old television shows while I painted. I find that watching old shows from the 1950’s and 1960’s put me in a very relaxed state of mind. This state elevates my creativity and peaks my abilities. I watched a Bewitched marathon one day and a Dennis the Menace marathon one other day.
I believe the old television shows take my soul back to a simpler time where stress did not exist. I was not born when these shows originally aired, but I watched them in reruns on the UHF channels here in Houston in the mid-seventies.
I will be writing a more detailed blog about these paintings in the next day or two.
