Check out the line work on this baby! Here is a commission I worked up for Tyler Comic Con. I am so very happy with this one. The better the bristol board, the cleaner the flow of ink and the tighter the lines.
I have been very impressed with Marvel’s sketch covers lately. They have picked up their game. The earlier covers from Marvel were not very good. They either inked well and markered poorly… or they just stunk either way… at least for me. Now DC and Marvel have both offered artists top grade surfaces to render with our art. That said, every other company out there have done a terrible job as of late. I am going to stop purchasing the independent comics’ blanks.
Coming soon, I am going to write a series of blogs dedicated to reviewing sketch cover blanks. I hope to educate artists and post fair warnings to them as well. It stinks when you’ve inked up a masterpiece only to find out the bristol falls apart, causing alcohol markers to blotch. I have found a few tricks to get an artist through the coloring process on these weak covers. I will share what I can when I launch these posts.
Astros are on so I am signing off. Go ‘Stos!!!
