ABOUT DAVY JONES – THE CARTOONIST
Created by comic strip artist Davy Jones, this comic strip is created traditionally, using pencils for sketching out the scenes. Some scenes are reworked several times until the feel of the comic strip is perfect. Inking is accomplished with pen and ink. Davy uses several different cartooning pens to complete the comic strip art. All of the black art you see is created with a pen… including the cartoon lettering. Davy letters the comic strip lettering by hand… comic strip lettering is becoming a lost comic strip art. It is a painstaking task that gives his comic strip a huge edge over the other comic strips who now use fonts. Each comic strip design takes up to 4 hours to create from start to finish, but the cartooning task is a labor of love for the art of cartooning. Embracing the core elements of a comic strip is the key to creating superior comic strip art.
David is a full-member of the National Cartoonists Society and an inaugural member of the Texas Branch of the National Cartoonists Society. Davy self publishes and distributes his work under OKRA Comics, a distribution and publishing company he started in 1995. OKRA stands for Outlaw Kartooning Rebels Association.
