2018 COMES TO A CLOSE!

I made my last comic con appearance for 2018 on Saturday. This was the first time I ever felt like a successful cartoonist. The promoters treated me like royalty. I was invited to participate on a panel about writing and creating comics and I had the most amazing experience and I actually did very well answering questions. The people attending the show were awesome as well as they all wanted to know every detail on how I produce my comic strips. I also sat down for an interview for a video blog which really had me feeling like I was a rock star. Lastly, I stood as a judge for an art contest which was such an amazing honor. I wish more shows treated me like this!!!! THANKS NERD FEST!!!!

This was the show I so desperately needed for my ego. I have been really bummed over the past six months with shows where I felt like everyone saw me as an amateur cartoonist. The last three shows in a row were the worse in my last four years of doing shows. So this show was a life saver and a game changer. I am still only looking at doing only the 5 shows I have scheduled next year, but now I am open to adding a few more shows.

GOALS FOR 2019

I hit all but one of my goals for 2018. The one goal I did not see come true was “getting syndicated”. I have no idea what is up with my bid for syndication. I cannot get a syndicate to respond to my submissions this year. The only way I can every make a career out of cartooning would be if Charmy’s Army would get syndicated. This will always be a hobby until syndication knocks at my door. Until then, my readers are losing out on a lot of amazing projects that cannot be worked on with the limited time I have for this “hobby”. 

With Charmy’s Army only being a hobby, here are my goals for 2019…

• Double the number of newspapers running Charmy’s Army…. So my goal will be 5 more newspapers. I want a total of at least 10 newspapers running Charmy’s Army before the end of 2019. This will be a VERY hard task, but I will get this accomplished.
• Produce TWO new comic books for Charmy’s Army. The next issue will run a story called Defective Detectives”. Issue three is still up in the air as to which story will grace that issue.
• Turn a profit at the end of the year. This year I finally broke even, Next year I need to make money. I am no longer doing shows as a marketing platform. Shows are now a business geared to make money so I can produce more comic books.
• Script a pilot episode for Charmy’s Army, the animated series.
• Script out ANT-idote to pitch to DC Comics. I have had an amazing idea for a 4 issue mini series starring the JUST ANTS LEAGUE and would love to put a draft on the desk of anyone at DC who would love to look at a twisted Elseworld universe.
• And of course, I want to get syndicated. I am going to submit my comic strips again and again and again. I refuse to give up, especially since the syndicates are not responding. Maybe my submissions keep getting lost. I bet that is it.

I have one other goal, but it is HUGE. I am keeping that one to myself and will hopefully have a nice surprise mid-way through the year.
