INKtober Day 11 – Crusty as Atom Ant

Today’s INKtober features one of Charmy’s nephews, Crusty! Wait, or is that Rusty? Um… Dusty? No wait, Musty, right? All four are identical quadruplets so it is impossible to tell them apart.

Charmy’s nephews made their debut four years ago when my comic strip was a web-only series on Comics Sherpa. I loved being on Comics Sherpa because my strip could be added to a person’s GoComics subscription. Because of the fact people could add Charmy to their subscriptions, my readership was massive. Once GoComics dropped all Sherpa comic strips from linking to GoComics, I lost my readership and moved to my own website. relaunching my comic strip as I started over. I really miss Comics Sherpa. Rumor is that it will relaunch in 2019 but by then I hope to either be syndicated elsewhere or picked up officially on GoComics.

I hope to reintroduce the nephews to my new audience. They do not fit in with the comic strip now, so I have plans on introducing them in one of my upcoming comic books. I will take the three week long story from four years ago and rewrite it into an epic tale of drama and mayhem.

I am looking forward to my trip to San Antonio and my appearance at Alamo City Comic Con. Part of why I do these shows to to get on the radar of my peers. I have yet to make any advance on my career after meeting any of these giants. I am doing a terrible job of making a big impression on any of them. Heck, most artists in Artist’s Alley don’t “get” me. This is why I am laying a bit low next year, I need to regroup and make a bunch of comic books. I need to focus on impressing the syndicates and get picked up by GoComics or King Features. Next year will be a make or break…. or is it brake?…. year.

It can’t be a “brake” year because I will never stop cartooning. Next year, if still unsuccessful, would be a “break” year…. breaking my spirit maybe, but not my will or determination. Yes, wanting to be a cartoonist these days is rough and ever so discouraging… but every tiny win I do see feels like a major victory. Never fear, Charmy’s Army will always be my passion… win or lose…. 🙂
