A DAY LATE BUT NOT A DOLLAR SHORT

I am SO busy! I know I am a day late but I was working on a deadline for Bell County Comic Con’s comic book. I am working on a page for the publication. I was up until two in the morning inking. I hope to share it with you if I am allowed to. I need to check with the publisher. The page is a very funny gag in the form of an eight panel comic strip.

I did not get in from my appearance in Austin until eleven o’clock Sunday night to top if off. I worked so hard over the weekend too. I know everyone must think these show appearances are easy. They are not. My setup takes four hours to assemble and requires four trips to haul everything in. This show had an easy load in. When I do Comicpalooza and Alamo City, load in is an agonizing ordeal and adds an extra hour to the setup. At both, I had to park blocks away year after year and lug my heavy setup through some crazy, crowded streets. Believe me, it is worth the hard work every year because both shows are amazing.

GREATER AUSTIN COMIC CON

Thank you all for an amazing weekend! I am not just saying this…. the audience consisted of the most amazing people I have ever met. I am so bad with names and wish I could recall everyone by their name, so please forgive me for not call each person out by name. There was one young boy who was wanting to be a cartoonist like me and he looked and acted JUST like me when I was his age. He and his parents stopped by Saturday and Sunday to talk with me. I love sharing my passion for cartooning with kids who are THAT passionate.

There was one other teenager and his mom who I met on Saturday who made a huge impression on me. They had purchased one of my sketch covers, Frenchy as C3P-O, for the teenager’s dad. The teenager returned on Sunday at the end of the show to thank me for talking with him. If you are reading this, I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to thank me. I often wonder if I am making a real connection with the audience. You made me feel so happy and proud of myself. You, sir, were the highlight of my appearance. Thank you!

The vendors across from me were so entertaining! I am a HUGE fan of The Walking Dead.  These people were cosplayers who looked just like Carl, Rosita and Rick! Carl was very close…. Rosita was extremely close but did not dress up for the show…. and the guy who played Rick was a dead ringer!!!!! He looked just like Andrew Lincoln. Spitting image. The guy was so nice too. I told him he needs to get with Kirkman and take over should Andrew really leave the show. It would be just like the “switching of the Darin’s” on Bewitched. On that note, I thought the Darin switch was anything but seamless. To me Dick York and Dick Sergeant looked nothing alike.

Thanks to everyone who took time to talk with me, buy a comic book and support my dream. I will be a real cartoonist one day very soon… lol. I am not satisfied with only being in a handful of weekly newspapers. I am working very hard to convince every paper in the United States to run my strip.

I will see you all in Austin again next year should this show continue. If the show does not continue, I will be back in your amazing city if another show should raise its head.
