HUGE “THANK YOU” TO STAPLE!

Thanks Uncle Staple and all the people I met at Staple! Independent Media Expo. I had a blast. Austin is such an amazing city. I am already seeing a good spike in my website stats today. I am sure this is from all the cards I handed out this weekend.

Unfortunately, I did not generate any revenue at the show… I sold one sketch cover at half price , one button and one stick for a grand total of $27. OUCH! Even though I did so poorly here, I still may return next year. Attendance seemed low and the other artists did say they also had weak sales. I am chalking this up to the hurricane we had recently. The storm did not affect Austin physically, but mentally I believe it affected Texas as a whole.

SYNDICATION UPDATE

I heard back from GoComics. It was a brief email containing only two sentences. They first thanked me for submitting my revamped comic strip. In the second sentence they said that the answer is still “no”. I was hoping for a sentence or two of encouragement, but these guys get so many submissions every week. I am just glad they took the time to personally contact me.

Does this mean I will never get syndicated? Nope. I have an enormous following. I just have to figure out how to express this fact to GoComics. Given the chance, I will become the biggest comic strip in their line up. I just need them to have faith in me and provide an opportunity. I just need a chance and I will shine.

How can I get them to see how hug Charmy’s Army is? I am going to launch the biggest, most incredibly successful Kickstarter ever seen in 2018. I am going to produce a treasury collection like no other. It will be better than anything Pearls Before Swine has ever released. I will create stretch goals that will have jaws dropping and supporters anxiously backing my book.

Once GoComics witnesses my book’s success, they will be coming to ME for syndication…. and I will jump onboard immediately.

FANDEMIC CANCELLED

Yes, it has been on punch in the gut after another for me this past week. With three shows remaining, I needed to make at least $500 at each show to break even this year. Yeah, I am in that much debt. Shows are expensive, hotels are expensive and setup costs money. I only had two shows where I broke even at this year and I had a few like Staple where I lost quite a bit. SO when Fandemic pulled out due to the hurricane we had, I needed to make $750 at each of the remaining shows… and the best I ever did at a show is $450.

So now that Fandemic pulled out and I bombed at Staple, I have to make $1500 at Tyler Rose Comic Con. All I can do is just smile and chalk this year up for a huge loss. I can smile because I have gained a ton of new readers and I am at the top of my game creatively. I also met Guy Gilchrist this year who gave me some amazing words of encouragement.

Fandemic will try again next year in October. Of course I am hearing that Alamo City will focus on one show only… and it will be in October. I want to do Alamo City of course… but if these shows are on the same date, I will do Fandemic in a heart beat and support my local show. These guys are so awesome, I know they will put on a great show.

UPBEAT AND READY FOR TYLER ROSE COMIC CON

I am ready for my last comic con of the year. I am braced for a small show. I know this is not going to be anything like Comicpalooza or Alamo City… and I am going to be lucky if I come close to breaking even. I am going into this show with my mind thinking that I have broke even for the year and this show is just for fun. Once I finally get syndicated, I will look back on this investment as money well spent.

Sorry for the bummer post! Not every week is positive but that is expected. My comic strip will be so huge one day. When that happens, we will all remember what we went through to scale this towering mountain.
