Every day in March, I will spotlight some of the art I have created for my fans over the past few years. I will even throw in a few that are up for sale.
Here is a commission I did for one of my favorite readers. , CJ Labb. CJ commissioned me to draw Frenchy as Wonder Woman. She does a fantastic job of channeling Gal Gadot! Not sure if it just her expression, or if is her stance but Frenchy totally transforms herself!
When it comes to blank sketch cover canvasses, DC Comics does a great job with their bristle board most of the time. This cover’s surface was awesome. DC Comics produced a Supergirl blank cover last year that was not even bristle board. It was a slick, cheap paper stock that did not accept inks at all. It was cheap, but it was unusable. Last year’s cover felt like cheap, glossy copy paper.
The cover on this year’s blank sketch cover was commissioned prior to the release of Batman V Superman. I thought the movie would help push the sales for more Batman commissions. I loved the movie… unfortunately it was frowned upon by way too many people. I made a print of another cover I created. The cover took three shows before it sold. I have yet to sell a single print. The print is being removed from my catalog.
Poor sales aside, I still love the movie Batman V Superman. I love the entire feel of the movie. My belief is that people late to hate on things, taking the side of their own personal agenda. People who are Marvel movie fans just do not want to give DC Comics a break. Vice versa goes for DC Comic fans who hate on the Marvel movies. Me? I enjoy the heck out of both movie properties.
Stay TOON’ed for more sketch cover art tomorrow and through the rest of the month.
