Blue Gene Riptonhaff sat across from a woman he had just met, trying very hard to look like a man who belonged in a quiet restaurant and not someone who had spent the last hour mentally preparing to reveal a name that sounded like a clerical error. The moment still hung in the air between them, his confession lingering as she studied him with a difficult-to-read expression.
“My real name is Blue Gene Riptonhaff,” he had said, and now the silence that followed felt like a test he had no way to study for.
She blinked once, then leaned back slightly in her chair. “That is… a very unique name.”
