Both! Some strips are quick one-off gags, while others build into longer storylines with cliffhangers and callbacks. In 2010, Davy landed his first newspaper in Kenya where Charmy’s Army ran for 8 months before the newspaper ceased publishing its print edition. In 2012, Davy landed his first long-term run in Brazoria County’s Weekly Bulletin, a paper Charmy’s Army is still running in today. He’s the wildcard of mischief, chaos, and comic relief wrapped in fur. He once pretended to be a sleepwalker just to dodge shots from Doc. For the real origin of Flimp the Chimp, we have to go back in time to 1974 where seven year old Davy created his first comic strip about a young boy and his pet monkey named Flimp the Chimp. Flimp predates the rest of the gang by over four decades! Adding him to the comic strip was the perfect way to mix up reality. The only person not happy with it is Sarge.

16. Who is Sarge?

Sarge is the commanding officer at the base. He’s tough and constantly frustrated by the antics of his soldiers. Deep down, he respects them and wishes he could “let loose” and have as much fun as the rest of the gang as they hang out after hours at The Candy Bar.

Real in the strip, yes. Real in life? Only if you believe snobby socialites follow explorers around like groupies. In reality, she is a gold digger who has no money. She believes that Captain Whackipuss is rich and the captain thinks Beatrix is rich. The situation is the only thing that is actually rich.

23. Does Charmy’s Army break the fourth wall?

Absolutely. The characters are fully aware they’re in a comic strip, and they’re not shy about complaining to their cartoonist. Davy has been warned by editors and his fellow cartoonists that exposing the fourth wall will hinder his comic strip from ever getting syndicated. Davy hates being told what to do, so I guess this comic strip will never be syndicated.
